Ukrainian Drones Target Chemical Plant in Russia’s Vologda Region

On April 13, Ukrainian drones launched an attack on a chemical plant in the city of Cherepovets, located in Russia’s Vologda region. This operation was confirmed by Robert Brody, the commander of Ukraine’s drone forces, who highlighted the strategic significance of the facility.

Brody noted that the Cherepovets chemical plant is a major producer of ammonia, nitrates, and nitric acid, with outputs reaching hundreds of thousands of tons annually. The products manufactured at this facility serve as essential raw materials in the production of explosives, including trinitrotoluene (TNT) and hexogen, which are critical components in ammunition manufacturing.

Prior reports from Ukrainian Telegram channels indicated that the drones achieved at least two direct hits on the “Apatit” chemical plant, part of the PhosAgro group. This facility is recognized as the largest producer of phosphorus-based fertilizers in Europe and ranks among the leaders in Russia for the production of NPK fertilizers, ammonia, and ammonium nitrate.

The “Apatit” plant has previously been targeted, with an attack occurring on the night of March 27, 2026, resulting in a fire on its premises, according to earlier Telegram reports.

Ukrainian drone forces confirmed an attack on the 'Apatit' chemical plant in Cherepovets, Russia, which is significant for its production of materials used in explosives. This incident follows previous assaults on the same facility, underscoring ongoing tensions in the region.
