Ukrainian Court Partially Lifts Asset Freeze on Yulia Tymoshenko

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has partially granted Yulia Tymoshenko’s appeal regarding the seizure of her assets. The court lifted restrictions on three vehicles, two garages, and $6,300, while maintaining the freeze on her bank accounts.

This decision follows the court’s review of Tymoshenko’s appeal related to allegations of bribery involving members of parliament. The ruling allows her to regain ownership of a Toyota Land Cruiser 200, a Gaz 14, an Audi A8, and two garages located in Dnipro, which are registered under her husband, Oleksandr Tymoshenko.

During the proceedings, Tymoshenko’s defense argued that the asset freezes could lead to financial hardship for her family. They also pointed out procedural issues, claiming that the investigation against her was not properly registered in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.

Background on the Allegations

On January 13, anti-corruption officials conducted a search at the office of the Batkivshchyna party, seizing $40,000 from Tymoshenko. Authorities allege that this money was intended for bribing three deputies from another faction to secure their votes. Subsequently, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) announced charges against her for offering a bribe and released a recording of her conversation with a deputy where the alleged bribe was discussed.

Tymoshenko has accused the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and SAP of orchestrating a political vendetta against her, asserting that the recording was fabricated and that the seized funds were her personal savings.

On January 16, the court imposed a bail of 33.3 million hryvnias on Tymoshenko, along with restrictions requiring her to surrender her passport and remain within Kyiv Oblast without permission from investigators.

During the January 16 hearing, Tymoshenko identified the deputy in the audio recording as Ihor Kopytin from Mykolaiv. She claimed that Kopytin approached her to propose cooperation, stating his opposition to President Zelensky’s policies. Tymoshenko also alleged that Kopytin is involved in a separate criminal case under investigation by NABU.

According to the investigation, the communication between the deputies occurred on January 12, 2026. Tymoshenko and her team have consistently criticized the actions of NABU and SAP, even voting to eliminate their independence.

On January 23, it was reported that the full bail amount of 33.3 million hryvnias had been posted on Tymoshenko’s behalf.

Yulia Tymoshenko's appeal led to a partial lifting of asset freezes by Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court, allowing her to regain some properties while maintaining restrictions on her bank accounts. The case involves allegations of bribery linked to parliamentary votes.
