An employee of Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) at a checkpoint near the entrance to Sumy. NABU confirmed the detention via a statement on Telegram.
The bureau clarified that the employee was in the city while fulfilling official duties related to an ongoing investigation.
According to NABU, the SBU cited the employee’s family ties to temporarily occupied territories as one of the reasons for the detention. The bureau emphasized that prior to his appointment, the individual underwent all necessary vetting procedures, including a polygraph test conducted by NABU’s Internal Control Department, which assessed potential connections with representatives of the aggressor state or collaborationist structures.
“Such actions hinder NABU’s ability to document crimes and carry out its official duties within the framework of criminal proceedings,” the bureau stated.
Public broadcaster Suspilne has reached out to the SBU for further comment.
The detention of a NABU employee by the SBU highlights ongoing tensions regarding personnel linked to occupied territories. NABU has expressed concerns about the impact of such actions on its investigative capabilities.
