Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Bureau Employee Detained by SBU in Sumy

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has reported the unjustified detention of one of its employees by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) at a checkpoint near Sumy. The incident occurred while the NABU staff member was performing official duties related to an ongoing investigation.

According to NABU, the employee was stopped by SBU agents, allegedly part of a unit coordinated by the first deputy head of the SBU. The bureau claims that the detention was unwarranted, citing that the employee’s parents reside in a temporarily occupied territory as a possible reason for the action taken against him.

NABU emphasized that the detained employee had previously undergone all necessary background checks before his appointment, including a polygraph test conducted by the bureau’s Internal Control Department. This assessment specifically evaluated any potential connections or collaborations with representatives of the aggressor state or collaborationist entities.

The bureau expressed concern that such actions hinder their ability to document crimes and fulfill their official responsibilities within the framework of the criminal proceedings. NABU is currently taking steps to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and plans to provide further details in due course.

As of now, the SBU has not released any statements regarding the incident.

The NABU has condemned the detention of one of its employees by the SBU as unjustified, raising concerns about interference in ongoing investigations. The bureau is seeking clarity on the incident while the SBU remains silent.
