Ukrainian Air Force Logistics Commander Detained on Corruption Charges

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has ordered the detention of Andriy Ukrayinyets, the commander of logistics for the Ukrainian Air Force, amid allegations of corruption related to the construction of aircraft shelters. The court has set a 60-day detention period, with an option for bail set at 7 million hryvnias.

The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors, a request made by both the prosecution and defense. This follows the earlier detention of another suspect in the same case, Volodymyr Kompanichenko, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Zhytomyr region.

On February 25, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko announced that both Ukrayinyets and Kompanichenko were implicated in corrupt activities during the construction of the aircraft shelters. A total of 1.4 billion hryvnias was allocated in May 2025 for the construction of modular arch structures.

Kravchenko stated that inspections by the SBU’s Military Counterintelligence Department uncovered serious violations. The projects reportedly did not meet safety requirements, failed to provide adequate protection for aviation assets, and the costs were significantly inflated. Despite these findings, advance payments were initiated under the contracts.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, Ukrayinyets attempted to conceal the misappropriation of budget funds and obstruct inspections by soliciting Kompanichenko’s assistance in bribing the leadership of the military counterintelligence. Kompanichenko allegedly agreed to act as a guarantor for this arrangement, having personally involved one of the contractors in the scheme.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian Air Force announced the initiation of an internal investigation. The SBU has not publicly commented on the ongoing case.

Andriy Ukrayinyets, commander of logistics for the Ukrainian Air Force, has been detained on corruption charges related to aircraft shelter construction. The court's decision follows earlier detentions in a case involving significant budget misappropriations.
