Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has affirmed that despite Russia’s promises of a ceasefire, the Ukrainian military remains prepared for any developments on the front lines and will respond in kind.
In a statement via Telegram, Zelensky outlined the parameters for Ukraine’s response to potential violations of the ceasefire by Russian forces. He emphasized, “We all understand who we are dealing with. Ukraine will adhere to the silence regime and will act exclusively in a mirror-like manner. The absence of Russian strikes in the air, on land, and at sea will mean the absence of our responses.”
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to various formats of ceasefire negotiations with Russia, suggesting that Easter should be a time of peace and safety. He indicated that a ceasefire during this period could serve as a genuine step towards peace, stating, “From our side, the corresponding proposal exists.”
Furthermore, Zelensky discussed the operational readiness of Ukrainian forces under ceasefire conditions with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, and mentioned the possibility of extending the ceasefire beyond Easter.
This announcement follows a declaration from the Kremlin, where President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary ceasefire for Easter, set to last for one and a half days.
