Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the upcoming round of peace negotiations will take place in Switzerland. In an interview with Piers Morgan, which was released on YouTube, Zelensky confirmed the location, emphasizing its significance given the ongoing conflict in Europe.
“You mentioned the next meeting. I want to stress that it will also be in Switzerland. This is the information I have at this moment. Of course, our team will return, and I will have more detailed information than what I currently have on my phone,” Zelensky stated.
The president pointed out the importance of conducting the negotiation process in Europe, saying, “I think a good aspect is that the meeting is happening in Switzerland. It’s very important. I always speak about this with respect to the Middle East and other countries, but I believe that if there is a war in Europe, then the location should be sought here.”
The context of this announcement follows recent discussions held in Geneva. On February 18, Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, reported that the second day of Ukrainian-American-Russian negotiations had commenced.
Later that day, Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Russian delegation, noted that the latest round of talks had concluded after approximately two hours, describing them as “difficult but businesslike.” Zelensky also mentioned that an agreement was reached regarding the monitoring of the ceasefire, which will involve the participation of the United States.
However, he added that there remain unresolved political issues regarding potential compromises and the necessity for a meeting of leaders to address these matters.
