On March 10, Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, announced the establishment of new military units within the National Guard, including assault and drone regiments, as well as a separate airspace protection regiment. This initiative aims to enhance the operational capabilities of Ukraine’s defense forces amid ongoing conflict.
Klymenko shared the news via Telegram, emphasizing that a significant number of Ministry of Internal Affairs units are actively engaged in combat operations at the front lines. He noted that the ministry is continuously assessing their deployment, the evolving nature of warfare, and their combat experience to improve effectiveness.
“A significant portion of the Ministry’s units is directly involved in combat tasks at the front. We are constantly analyzing their use, the changing nature of combat operations, and our war experience to enhance effectiveness,” Klymenko stated.
The primary objective of this restructuring is to bolster battlefield capabilities, expand the use of modern technologies, and improve responses to aerial threats. Klymenko pointed out that this approach has already yielded positive results.
“This approach has already proven effective. In particular, the corps reform within the Defense Forces conducted last year has shown its effectiveness during combat operations,” he remarked.
Additionally, the minister assured that the ministry will continue to scale up combat experience and technological solutions to “preserve the lives of our soldiers and enhance the effectiveness of combat tasks.”
