Ukraine Reports Significant Russian Military Losses Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Ukrainian General Staff has reported that Russia has lost approximately 1,308,670 military personnel since the onset of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This figure includes 1,130 soldiers who were reported killed in just the last day, as of April 10.

In addition to personnel losses, the Ukrainian military has detailed substantial Russian equipment losses. The figures include:

  • Tanks: 11,848 (+1 in the last day)
  • Armored fighting vehicles: 24,375 (+5)
  • Artillery systems: 39,734 (+45)
  • Multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS): 1,724
  • Anti-aircraft systems: 1,341
  • Aircraft: 435
  • Helicopters: 350
  • Tactical drones: 229,771 (+2,232)
  • Cruise missiles: 4,517
  • Ships and boats: 33
  • Submarines: 2
  • Military vehicles and fuel tankers: 88,515 (+183)
  • Specialized equipment: 4,119

Russia has not publicly disclosed its military losses, with the last official figures released in September 2022, which reported 5,937 soldiers killed.

Meanwhile, independent Russian media outlets, including Mediazona and the BBC Russian Service, along with volunteer teams, have identified the names of 204,626 Russian soldiers killed in the conflict since February 2022. However, this list is believed to be incomplete, as not all casualty information becomes publicly available.

Estimates of total Russian casualties, including both dead and wounded, are significantly higher according to international organizations and intelligence assessments. A NATO official, speaking anonymously in December 2025, indicated that the number of killed and wounded in the Russian military could be approaching 1.15 million.

Ukraine has also been cautious in disclosing its own military losses. President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that information on Ukrainian casualties would be released after the war, although he has provided updates approximately once a year. In an interview with France 2 in early February 2026, Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine had lost 55,000 soldiers since the start of the conflict, along with a significant number of individuals classified as missing.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi stated on January 13 of this year that measures taken in 2025 had resulted in a 13% reduction in personnel losses, although he did not provide specific details regarding Ukrainian casualties.

The Ukrainian military reports staggering Russian losses in personnel and equipment since the invasion began. Independent sources suggest even higher casualty figures, while Ukraine remains cautious in revealing its own losses.
