Ukraine Offers Interceptors to Middle Eastern Countries in Exchange for Patriot Missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a reciprocal arrangement with Middle Eastern nations, offering interceptor systems in exchange for Patriot missile supplies. This announcement comes as Ukraine faces a shortage of PAC-3 missiles, critical for its defense.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with Middle Eastern countries, noting that while they possess advanced air defense systems, such as the Patriot, these alone may not effectively counter the threat posed by Iranian drones, referred to as “Shaheds.” He remarked, “This is a non-working model,” indicating that current defenses may be inadequate.

He further explained that Ukraine is currently experiencing a deficit in PAC-3 missiles and suggested that a mutual exchange could be beneficial. “If they provide us with PAC-3 missiles, we can supply them with interceptors. This is a fair exchange,” he stated, expressing optimism about the potential collaboration.

In related developments, Israel launched an attack on Tehran, Iran, on February 28, marking a significant escalation in military operations against the Iranian regime. U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently announced a large-scale military operation aimed at eliminating perceived threats from Iran, accusing the Iranian government of supporting militant groups across the region.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) responded by launching missiles and drones towards Israel and attacking U.S. military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. In light of these tensions, French President Emmanuel Macron called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to address the escalating situation.

The European Union reaffirmed its commitment to regional security and stability in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict. Zelensky also expressed support for the Iranian people, advocating for their right to be free from a “terrorist regime” and to ensure safety for all nations affected by Iranian aggression.

On February 28, Trump claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was dead, a statement later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA). Following this, on March 1, the IRGC announced the initiation of a major offensive operation against Israel and U.S. bases, prompting Trump to warn of severe repercussions if Iran continued its aggressive plans.

On March 2, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that the next phase of military operations against Iran would be even more destructive, underscoring the escalating tensions in the region.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has proposed a trade of interceptors for PAC-3 missiles with Middle Eastern countries amid ongoing military tensions involving Iran. The situation escalated following Israel's attack on Tehran and the U.S. military's response to threats from Iran.
