Ukraine lacks 750 million dollars out of the 2 billion needed for gas imports, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said at a briefing on November 3.

According to the results of a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, he noted that Europe will provide 127 million euros.

“In principle, as of today, we understand that we lack about 750 million of the two billion that we talked about for gas, only that President Ursula said that we will still be given about 127 million euros in support,” the president said.

Following the conversation with Zelenskyi, Ursula von der Leyen wrote on the X social network that Ukraine “will not face this winter alone.”

“The EU is supporting you by providing emergency energy support to help Ukraine in the coming months. At the same time, we are working on options for providing the necessary sustainable financial assistance to Ukraine,” she said.

According to von der Leyen, on November 4, the European Commission will approve a report on EU enlargement, “which will mark Ukraine’s extraordinary commitment to the European path during the last year.”

“The Commission’s message is clear: Ukraine is ready to move forward,” the President of the European Commission emphasized.

Recently, Russia has stepped up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector and the gas infrastructure that supplies people with gas during the heating season.

On October 28, the chairman of the board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Serhii Koretskyi, reported that Ukraine has already suffered the seventh massive Russian attack on gas infrastructure since the beginning of October, resulting in damage to production facilities in the Poltava region.

According to him, the previous six attacks in October led to significant destruction and loss of production, so there is a need for additional gas imports.

On October 9, Bloomberg reported that Russian strikes had destroyed more than half of Ukraine’s domestic natural gas production, likely forcing Kyiv to spend 1.9 billion euros ($2.2 billion) on fuel imports to survive the winter.

According to the publication’s sources, Ukraine informed its allies that the massive Russian shelling of the Kharkiv and Poltava regions on October 3 destroyed approximately 60% of the country’s gas production.
