In Poland, they will first have to assess the formal compliance of the request with all requirements, after which they will check the presence of reasons for the inadmissibility of extradition of the detainee.

After that, the prosecutor’s office will formulate its position on this issue and submit it to the court together with the Ukrainian request.

Probably, at the same time, a petition will be submitted to the court to extend the detention of the detainee, since the term expires on January 13. The final decision on extradition will be made by the court.

We will remind, about detention of a Russian scientistwho is wanted by Ukraine for conducting illegal archaeological excavations in the occupied Crimea, it became known at the beginning of December. He was taken into custody in one of the hotels in Warsaw during his trip to Europe with lectures.

Most likely, we are talking about Oleksandr Butyagin, who was notified of suspicion in absentia by the Security Service of Ukraine in November 2024.

In the Kremlin called this detention “arbitrary” and declared that they would work to release the archaeologist.
