Ukraine Imposes Sanctions on Russian Transport Companies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on February 28, implementing sanctions against ten Russian transport and logistics companies involved in delivering goods to territories occupied by Russia in Ukraine.

The sanctions target private Russian firms that supply goods to Russian forces and facilitate the reverse transport of items. This action is part of a broader strategy to disrupt logistical support for occupying forces.

Included in the sanctions are companies operating in temporarily occupied areas, which utilize seized infrastructure from Ukrainian postal services. These firms are reportedly involved in activities such as processing identification documents and issuing summonses.

Furthermore, postal operators that have established channels for what is termed parallel import of dual-use goods are also facing sanctions. This measure aims to curb the circumvention of existing trade restrictions.

Just a week prior, Zelensky had enacted measures against 225 ship captains linked to a shadow fleet exporting Russian petroleum products, indicating a sustained effort to tighten economic pressure on entities supporting the Russian military.

Ukraine's recent sanctions against Russian transport companies reflect ongoing efforts to disrupt logistical support for occupying forces in Ukrainian territories. The measures also target firms exploiting seized infrastructure for administrative functions.
