Ukrainian delegation at the 108th meeting of the Executive Council of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons(OPHZ) in Hague presented evidence of systematic use of chemical weapons in the war against Ukraine, which is a gross violation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports about it.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, from February 2023 to February 2025 more than 6 900 cases of use of ammunition with chemicals were recorded. In the period from December 24, 2024 to January 24, 2025, 844 such cases were recorded. In addition, more than 2 100 appeals of the Ukrainian military to medical institutions with symptoms of chemical damage were registered, including three fatal cases.
The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Deputy Director of the Ministry of International Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andriy Kasyanov, noted the increase in the use of dangerous chemicals as a method of warfare by Russia.
“The Ukrainian delegation attracted attention to the second report of the OPSC, which confirmed the presence of CS substances in the evidence transmitted by Ukraine-four Russian gas grenades of the RG-in and the corresponding samples of soil and grass. According to the competent authorities of Ukraine, the RG-it is produced at Russian enterprises, including the Scientific Center “Applied Chemistry” and the Scientific and Applied Institute of Applied Chemistry “.
Kyiv insists on continuing Russia’s isolation and demands to exclude it from the Executive Council of OPCH for the third year in a row. Ukraine has also re -applied for membership of the VHZHA Executive Council for the period 2026–2028.
Earlier, two laboratories of OPCH confirmed that Russia uses grenades with prohibited chemicals in Ukraine. In May 2024, the US State Department included the use of Chlorpikrin by Russian troops against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in substantiating new sanctions against Russia.
