Details: As the ambassador of Ukraine in Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, said, “it is necessary to do everything to ensure smooth implementation of planned orders and financing of additional assistance in the new year.”
The diplomat stressed that the Bundestag is capable of making decisions even after the collapse of the coalition and can approve the next packages of weapons.
“The majority was and remains on our side – an absolute democratic majority,” he emphasized.
Before the collapse of the government, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed the allocation of an additional 3 billion euros for military support to Ukraine. Negotiations between the coalition factions – the Social Democrats and the Greens – and the opposition are currently ongoing.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, who represents the “Greens”, speaks in support of the approval of the aid. In particular, we are talking about 812 reconnaissance drones of the company Quantum, worth 153 million euros, which Ukraine requested, but this request has not even been registered in the Bundestag.
We will remind you that in the previous draft of the German budget for 2025, 4 billion euros are provided for assistance to Ukraine – half as much as in 2024.
In September, it was reported that the German government plans to supply Ukraine with another arms package worth 1.4 billion euros by the end of the year, despite the fact that the budget funds for military support of Kyiv have already been largely exhausted.
