Ukraine and Romania Initiate New Power Lines to Enhance Energy Security

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the construction of two new power transmission lines in collaboration with Romania, aimed at bolstering electricity supply to the Chernivtsi region and other areas.

This announcement was made during a joint press conference with Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă in Bucharest on March 12.

Zelensky emphasized that Kyiv and Bucharest are focused on expanding cross-border energy cooperation.

“We are building two new lines for electricity supply with Romania. Work is starting, which can support our regions, particularly Chernivtsi, and it will strengthen Romania’s energy security in our part of Europe,” Zelensky stated.

The President highlighted that the project is mutually beneficial for both nations, and a document regulating the construction of interconnectors was signed on March 12.

“We signed a very important interconnector project; we will build two interconnectors. They will have different electricity capacities… ensuring energy security for Ukraine. One interconnector is small, the other is large. We aim for the first to be ready by the end of the year, and the mood is currently positive,” he added.

In addition to the energy agreements, Zelensky and Ciucă signed several documents to enhance partnership between Ukraine and Romania.

On the morning of March 12, Zelensky arrived in Romania for discussions with the Romanian leader. Following his visit to Bucharest, he is scheduled to travel to Paris on March 13.

Ukraine and Romania are collaborating to construct two new power lines, enhancing energy supply and security in the region. This initiative reflects a commitment to strengthen cross-border energy cooperation.
