In April, the Ukrainian authorities allowed the exhumation of the remains of Poles in the village of Puzhnyki in the Ternopil region, which was burned to the ground along with its inhabitants in 1945.

Details: The purpose of the exhumation is primarily to establish the identities of the people whose remains were found in a pit near the former cemetery.
As emphasized by Macei Dantsevich, deputy head of the “Freedom and Democracy” foundation, after the excavations, the remains will be examined by Polish archaeologists and anthropologists.
Specialists are already collecting genetic material from descendants.
“At the place where the remains are located, this material will also be collected in such a professional manner,” said Macei Dantsevich on the air of the radio station.
After the research, it is planned to rebury the victims and perpetuate the memory of this place.
It is reported that during the tragic events that went down in history as the Volyn tragedy, about 80 people died in Puzhnyky.
