This year’s list includes 52 villages from different regions of the world – Africa, Central and South America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. They were chosen from among more than 270 applications submitted by 65 countries.
The rating included two Ukrainian villages – Kolochava and Synevyrska Polyana, located in Transcarpathia.

Kolochava is located in Khust district, on the territory of the Synevyr National Nature Park. It lies in a mountain valley between the Strymba, Darvaika, Barvinok, Krasna and Ruzha meadows.
The village has ten museums and five churches, two of which date back to the end of the 18th century.
Synevyrska Polyana is also located in the Khust district, not far from the largest lake of the Ukrainian Carpathians – Synevyr. The village has two temples and an eco-park with wolves, tigers, lions and ungulates.

When forming the rating, the following criteria are taken into account:
- cultural and natural resources;
- promotion and preservation of cultural resources;
- economic, social and environmental sustainability;
- development, management and prioritization in tourism;
- infrastructure and transport connections;
- health, safety and security.
Another 20 villages joined the renewal program – they were not included in the main rating, but have high potential.
