At one of the enterprises in the Mykolaiv community, 76 animals have already died. The focus of the outbreak was isolated, a place was determined for the burial of the dead pigs, and quarantine was introduced for 40 days. A protection zone was established within a radius of three kilometers, where all households are surveyed.
In the Nedrygailivska community, infected pigs were found near the highway. The herd has been eliminated, and the origin of the animals is being investigated by law enforcement officers. A protective zone has also been created here, and the local authorities organize visits to households to register pigs and carry out information work among residents.
The head of the Sumy regional military administration, Volodymyr Artyukh, called on the heads of communities and agricultural enterprises to actively take restrictive measures. Among other things, attention is paid to educational work to warn the local population about the risks of spreading the disease.
Experts emphasize that African swine fever is dangerous only for animals and does not pose a threat to humans. However, the disease has no vaccine, and infected animals inevitably die.
