For Kyiv, the coming days will be “extremely difficult”, the supply of electricity is planned for only two hours a day, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine warned.

The Ministry of Energy informed that on February 7, a meeting of the Staff for liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations in Kyiv and the region took place. In particular, after the last massive shelling of the Russian Federation, the situation in the energy system remains “extremely difficult”.

“Today, the enemy attacked energy facilities in a number of regions, and due to damage to high-voltage substations, nuclear power plants were forced to unload. So currently, most still have emergency power outages. Restoration work is ongoing at all facilities,” the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

The ministry noted that energy workers are doing everything possible to balance the system. Also, in the capital, additional strongholds of invincibility are being deployed in one district.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal reported that the Russian military carried out another mass attack on energy facilities of Ukraine. According to him, substations and overhead lines of 750 kV and 330 kV – “the basis of the energy network of Ukraine” – were under attack, as well as generation: Burshtynska TPP (located in Ivano-Frankivsk region) and Dobrotvirska TPP (in Lviv region).

The Ministry of Energy says that Ukrainian nuclear power plants have been forced to reduce their generation capacity.

“Ukrenergo” stated that due to the damage caused, emergency shutdowns of electricity were applied in most regions.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian troops attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones during the night and morning of February 7, a total of 447 means of air attack. According to the report, the main directions of the attack were Lviv Oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Rivne Oblast, and Vinnytsia Oblast.

After the massive attacks by the Russian Federation, Ukraine’s energy system is under a state of emergency, and since January 29, temporary schedules instead of emergency schedules began to operate in Kyiv.

But on January 31, the Ministry of Energy was informed about a system accident, as a result of which the high-voltage lines between the energy systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as between the western and central parts of Ukraine, were simultaneously disconnected.

In Ukraine, emergency blackouts were reported in a number of regions, as well as in Kyiv. In particular, due to an emergency shutdown, the metro stopped in the capital of Ukraine, and there was also no water supply.

In the evening of January 31, the Ministry of Energy announced that the energy industry had restored electricity supply in all regions of Ukraine.

On January 31, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukrainian energy experts are investigating the causes of the technological accident in the energy system – there is no confirmation of external intervention or cyber attack. According to him, “there are more data that due to weather conditions the lines were iced, automatic disconnections occurred.”

In Ukraine, frost has set in again. It is expected that at the beginning of February, the frost will reach minus 30 degrees in some places.
