“The Porcelain War” by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontiev will compete for an Oscar in the category “Documentary Feature”. In total, 169 films were accepted in this category, of which 15 films were selected.
Betsy West and Earl Mack’s “Once Upon a Time in Ukraine” was selected in the “Documentary Short Film” category. The tape was co-produced by Ukraine and the USA.
Philip Sotnichenko’s film “La Palisade”, which the Ukrainian Oscar committee nominated as a contender from Ukraine in the “Best International Feature Film” category, did not make it to the shortlist.
On December 5, the State Film Agency of Ukraine announced that three Ukrainian films were included in the long official list of Oscar contenders: “La Palisade”, “Porcelain War” and the documentary film “Peaceful People”.
The Oscar ceremony will take place on the night of March 3, 2025 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
The Ukrainian documentary film “20 days in Mariupol” won the main prize “Oscar” in 2024. The film directed by Mstislav Chernov became the third Ukrainian film nominated for this award, and the first to win a golden statuette. The film also won the BAFTA Best Documentary in February.
