Donald Trump’s legal team has prepared a report alleging that Boris Epstein, a personal adviser and top lawyer for US President-elect Donald Trump, sought to profit covertly as a broker in appointing candidates for positions in the next administration.
Source: The Washington Post, citing two unnamed people familiar with the legal review
Details: The report, prepared by Trump’s legal team, described how Epstein reached out to potential candidates, promising to advocate for the president in return for regular consulting payments.
“The president-elect’s top adviser asked potential administration nominees to pay him monthly consulting fees in exchange for advocating for them before Trump,” the report said.
According to the publication’s sources, among those who received similar offers was Scott Bessent, a candidate for the position of Minister of Finance.
Literally: “According to the report, a day after Bessent’s first meeting with Trump in February, Epstein invited him to lunch at a Palm Beach hotel, where Epstein asked for a monthly salary of at least $30,000 a month.”
Details: Epstein himself denies the accusation.
The publication notes that the Legal Review Initiative belongs to Trump himself. He commissioned it after learning of Epstein’s requirements for potential candidates. At the same time, the document recommends terminating Epstein’s work and close interaction with Trump, as his actions could cause a reputational scandal for Trump and potential criminal prosecution for Epstein.
Epstein often calls Trump to give positive news. “He is a fairy of good news,” one of Trump’s advisers told the newspaper.
Many of Trump’s advisers were skeptical of Epstein because he was making recommendations about positions that went far beyond his legal duties.
For reference: Epstein worked for Trump after the 2020 presidential election.
He subsequently led the president’s legal team in recent years, when Trump faced numerous criminal charges. Epstein demanded that all of Trump’s other lawyers work through him.
Since the election in November, Epstein has played an important role in President Trump’s team, spending a lot of time at the Mar-a-Lago residence and recommending candidates for key positions.
