Details: “It’s too late,” Trump told a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. He added that “voting has already begun,” and that’s true for several states, such as Minnesota, South Dakota and Virginia, that offer early in-person voting.

“She held one debate, I held two, it’s too late to hold another one. I would be happy, in many ways, but it’s already too late, the votes have been cast, the voters are already there,” he said.

Meanwhile in Leesport, Pa., Trump running mate JD Vance said he was open to a re-debate with Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, minutes after Trump said it was too late for another debate. The first debate between Vance and Volz is scheduled for October 1.

The former president’s comments came after Harris pushed her opponent for another debate, writing on social media platform X: “I’m excited to host the second presidential debate on October 23rd. I hope Donald Trump joins me.”

The CNN-hosted debate will take place in the channel’s Atlanta studios, an echo of the June showdown between Trump and President Joe Biden that proved disastrous for the president and ultimately precipitated the end of his campaign and his endorsement of Harris. The proposed debate would follow the same rules as the June debate, with candidates answering questions for 90 minutes without a live audience.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump press secretary Stephen Chung said the former president would not accept the debate offer, citing Trump’s previous comments he made on his social media platform Truth Social.. In a Sept. 12 post, two days after the first debate between Harris and Trump , he claimed there would be no third debate.

All the major polls for the first debate on September 10th showed Harris as the winner.
