“In a letter to the Prime Minister of Norway, US President Donald Trump linked his claims to Greenland with not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org
“Given that your country has decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping more than 8 wars, I no longer feel obligated to think exclusively about peace. Although it will always be dominant, but now I can think about what is good and proper for the United States,” the letter reads.
“The world will not be safe unless we have full and total control over Greenland,” the US president added.
The Nobel Peace Prize is not determined by the Norwegian government, but awarded by an independent committee.
Requests for comment have been sent to Stere’s press office and the White House, but have not yet received a response.
The existence of such a letter is confirmed by PBS News journalist Nick Shifrin. Citing sources, Bloomberg writes that the US president’s message was sent not only to the Norwegian prime minister, but also to several other European governments, but to whom exactly – it is not specified.
Norway reacted with disbelief last week to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado presenting her medal to Trump, who has long sought the award. Trump, who says he deserves the peace prize for settling multiple wars during his second term, accepted the medal from the Venezuelan opposition leader at a meeting at the White House.
“The Nobel Prize and the laureate are inseparable. Even if the medal or diploma later goes to someone else, it does not change who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,” said the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Trump says the strategically located and mineral-rich island is vital to U.S. security and the United States must possess it to prevent its occupation by Russia or China.
On January 10, Trump said that Washington was ready to “do something” about the island even without the consent of its inhabitants. The White House mentioned the use of American armed forces, purchase and other methods as possible options for establishing control over Greenland.
After returning to the White House in January 2025, Donald Trump repeatedly stated his intention to include Greenland in the United States.
Denmark said it would increase its military presence in and around Greenland, “bringing in planes, ships and soldiers” in close cooperation with NATO allies.
