Details: Trump was responding to a question about whether he was prepared to go to war to defend Ukraine if Russia violated the terms of any truce and invaded again. “I firmly believe that they will not invade again, otherwise I would not have agreed to this (participation in security guarantees. – Ed.),” Trump said.

Asked about a potential peace deal that would require the US and its allies to provide Ukraine with military support in the event of another invasion, Trump stressed that the US would play a secondary role in such a situation.
“Let’s say this: her (of Ukraine) allies, all of Europe, other countries that are joining this – and the United States,” Trump said.
He also said that he is still confident in Vladimir Putin’s desire to conclude an agreement to end the war. At the same time, Trump refused to elaborate on how quickly he hopes to end the war.
“I just don’t want to be in a situation where I have to say that because I have an obligation to try to save people’s lives. We’re doing everything we can. I don’t have a deadline,” Trump said.
He also said he was not ready to promise increased US support for Ukraine if Putin continued to refuse a truce.
We will remind:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that following the negotiations in Paris with the American side, a document on security guarantees “actually ready” to agree with Trump.
- On January 7, we will remind, the Ukrainian delegation held meetings with the American team in Paris
- On January 6, negotiations of the “coalition of the determined” took place in Paris with the personal participation of Zelensky. After the meeting, he stated that at this time “there are already answers” regarding many components of European guarantees, including the deterrent contingent.
