Details: Trump was asked whether he would introduce additional sanctions against the Russian Federation if Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin did not come to the negotiating table. The US president replied: “Sounds likely” (ed.).

Trump’s direct speech: “We are talking with Zelenskyi. We will talk with President Putin very soon, and we will see what and how it will happen.”

Details: At the same time, he accused the European Union of spending insufficient funds on the defense of Ukraine, and also added that he would “consider” the issue of whether the United States would send additional weapons to Ukraine.

As you know, the administration of the previous US President Joe Biden in the last months of his reign worked to transfer as much weapons and money as possible to Kyiv before leaving the White House.

Trump also confirmed that he discussed the war in Ukraine during a recent phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping: “He has a lot of power, and we have a lot of power. I said you have to settle it.”

The US president emphasized that Zelensky would like peace.

“But it takes two to tango. Let’s see what happens,” Trump concluded.

Prehistory:

  • On the first day of his presidency, Donald Trump said that Putin is destroying Russia without ending the war.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin, congratulating Trump on his inauguration as US president, declared that he was ready for a dialogue regarding the war he had unleashed against Ukraine, but at the same time continued to put forward an ultimatum demand – the complete surrender of Ukraine.
  • Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulating the new US president, emphasized that Trump’s “peace through strength” policy provides an opportunity to strengthen American leadership and “achieve a long-term and just peace.”
  • At the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21, Zelenskyi emphasized that Ukraine seeks to end the murderous war unleashed by Russia, but not just quickly, but most importantly – fairly.
