In his first major speech since winning last week’s election, Trump spoke at the American Policy Institute gala in Palm Beach, Florida on Thursday night and joked that the tech billionaire “just loves this place.”

“Elon, what a job, what a job he’s doing,” Trump praised. “He’s a great guy, he’s a really good guy. You know, he loves this place. I can’t get him out of here.”

Musk, who has been tasked with monitoring government efficiency for Trump, took the stage shortly after the US president-elect.

“As President Trump said, we need common sense,” Musk told the participants. “It won’t be business as usual. It will be a revolution.”

Musk reportedly spent “almost every day” with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He even joined Trump on a round of golf with his granddaughter, Kai, 17. The billionaire was also present on phone calls with world leaders, including Trump’s conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Musk was also constantly present in the election campaign. The billionaire founded the pro-Trump American Political Action Committee and even launched a daily lottery last month that gave away $1 million to people who signed a petition in support of First and Second Amendment rights.

Trump made much the same joke at a House Republican meeting on Wednesday: “Elon’s not coming home. I can’t get rid of him, at least not until I stop liking him.”

Veteran tech journalist Kara Swisher told CNN on Sunday morning that Trump insiders were confused and alarmed by the extent of Musk’s influence. “He definitely inserts himself all the time; that’s his style. That’s why he’s just suddenly there like a guest who doesn’t want to leave,” she said.
