Earlier, Trump refused to condemn Moscow for the invasion, and in February, his administration, together with Russia and North Korea, rejected the UN resolution that supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity and condemned Russia for aggression.

The US also opposed the G7 statement in which Russia was called the aggressor.

Trump accused Ukraine of the war, stating in April that “it is impossible to start a war against a country that is 20 times greater than you and then hope that you would give you several missiles.”

But Trump’s position on the Kremlin has changed during the summer, and his administration has begun to put increasing pressure on Vladimir Putin, as the Russian leader blocks Trump’s efforts to organize direct peace talks with Vladimir Zelensky.

“I stopped the seven wars and thought it would be easy for me, but it was difficult,” Trump said on Sunday, referring to the Russian invasion.

Since Trump’s tougher position did not force Putin to sit at the Negotiation table with Zelensky, the US administration faces more and more calls to impose more strict sanctions against Russia.

On Sunday, Trump stated that he plans to do it but only after Europe will stop buying Russian oil and will strengthen its own sanctions regime.

Hungary and Slovakia are the largest buyers of Russian energy resources in the EU and opposed the efforts of the European Commission to give them gradual.

Before that Trump said his patience about the Kremlin head Vladimir Putin “run out”.
