U.S. President Donald Trump announced a postponement of military strikes targeting Iranian energy facilities, now set for April 6, 2026, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. This decision comes in response to a request from the Iranian government.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “At the request of the Iranian government, I am delaying the start of the destruction of energy facilities by 10 days.” He emphasized that negotiations between the U.S. and Iran are progressing well, countering claims from media sources about the state of talks.
Prior to this announcement, on March 23, Trump had indicated that following productive discussions with Tehran, he had ordered military forces to refrain from attacking Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days. This initial pause was a tactical move aimed at fostering dialogue.
Trump’s earlier threats included potential bombings of Iranian energy sites if Iran did not restore freedom of navigation through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil exports. In response to these threats, Iranian officials warned that any U.S. strikes on their infrastructure would lead to retaliatory actions against American facilities in the Middle East.
President Trump has postponed military action against Iranian energy sites, now scheduled for April 6, 2026. This delay follows ongoing negotiations with Iran, which Trump claims are progressing positively despite contrasting media reports.
