Vance’s direct speech: “We don’t need to use military force. People forget that we already have troops (a certain military contingent on the island – ed.) in Greenland.”
Details: According to him, local residents during the recent visit of Trump’s son to Greenland expressed their desire “to have the right to develop their own resources.” According to Vance, the Danish authorities have not done enough for the security of the region.
“Frankly, the current leadership, the Danish government, has not done a very good job of securing Greenland,” he said.
Therefore, the future vice president said that this is a “good opportunity” for the United States to “take the initiative in securing Greenland and exploiting natural resources.”
“And that’s what Donald Trump knows how to do best. He knows how to make deals, and I think a deal can be made on Greenland,” Vance concluded.
Prehistory:
- Incoming US President Donald Trump has previously refused to rule out the use of military or economic force to gain control of Greenland, calling it a matter of US national security.
- The Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, then emphasized that Greenland belongs to its inhabitants. And Prime Minister of Greenland Mute Egede said that the island does not want to be American or Danish, but wants to be independent.
