“I believe he is convinced now that he will make an agreement. He will conclude an agreement. I think he will do it. And we will find out – I will find out very quickly,” Trump said.
The US President also noted that his purpose is to move to a tripartite meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, offering “three different places” for its holding, including “staying on Alaska”.
“If the meeting is unsuccessful, I will not call anyone – I will go home.. But if the meeting is successful, I will call President Zelensky and European leaders,” he said.
When asked if he would offer Russia’s economic incentives during the meeting, Trump answered.
“Well, I would not want to talk about it, because I do not want to open my cards in public, but whatever I decide, economic incentives – and perhaps restraining measures – in some ways more important, but the incentives should be economical, you understand,” he said.
Asked whether his threats could influence Putin’s decision to agree on Alaska, Trump replied that “everything has its influence”, and also stressed that secondary tariffs against India “actually eliminated it from the purchase of oil from Russia.”
“Of course, when you lose your second largest client and are probably going to lose the first size, I think it probably also plays a role,” he said.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the day before that Trump would call him after meeting with the Kremlin head.
The US president also stated that if a meeting on Alaska with the Kremlin head will go well – he will hold a second meeting in which Zelensky will be able to participate.
