President-elect Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to stay a potential ban on TikTok until his administration can find a “policy solution” to the issue. This is reported by Bloomberg UNN.

Details

The publication reports that Trump urged the court to give him time after the inauguration on January 20 to find a political solution to the dispute.

Trump does not take any position on the merits of this dispute. Instead, it respectfully requests that the Court consider delaying the statutory asset sale deadline until January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case

It is noted that such a suspension will allow Trump to “reach a political solution.”

In his address, Trump also noted that he has “excellent deal-making skills, the voter mandate and the political will to negotiate a solution that preserves the platform and addresses the government’s national security concerns.”

Trump’s appeal came after TikTok and the Biden administration filed their written arguments with the court on Friday.

The Justice Department, led by Biden appointees, said China’s control of TikTok poses serious national security threats. US Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar said the platform collects sensitive data on tens of millions of Americans and could be a powerful tool for a foreign adversary’s covert influence operations.

In response, TikTok said that Congress had not considered alternatives other than a ban.

While Trump previously supported banning TikTok, he has recently become more sympathetic to the platform. He said this month that he has warm feelings for TikTok because it helped win young voters to his side during the November election.

We will remind

A US appeals court refused to stay the ban on TikTok, which will take effect on January 19, 2025. ByteDance must sell the app or it will be removed from US app stores.
