Details: According to the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA), Berlin has requested the purchase of 173 Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) Block I missiles and 577 Standard Missile 2 Block IIIC missiles, as well as related equipment.

The DSCA said in a statement that the deal will help Germany respond to “current and future threats by providing an integrated air and missile defense capability that can be deployed with its future F127-class surface combat aircraft equipped with the Aegis gun system,” and will improve its ability to operate jointly with the US and other allied militaries.
However, the publication adds that the German government and the defense contractors who produce these systems have yet to agree on the terms of the contract. Congress can also block the sale.
Bloomberg reminds that American officials are pushing the European members of the UN to assume greater responsibility for the defense of the continent, in particular, to provide weapons to Ukraine.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told allies in Brussels in October that a strong Europe must deter Russia from further aggression, and in June allies agreed to increase their defense spending to 5% overall, with 3.5% going to so-called “hard defense”.
We will remind: The budget committee of the Bundestag approved the draft state budget for the next year, in which 11.5 billion euros have been laid down to support Ukraine.
