President Donald Trump has declared its intention to impose new duties on imports and semiconductors. According to him, the decision will be made within the next two weeks, after the completion of the investigation, which provides for the restriction of imports of goods that threaten the US national security. Bloomberg writes about it.

Trump said the chip rate can be 200% or even 300%. At the same time, the President mentioned the possible exemption from duties for companies that will transfer chips to the United States. In particular, he hinted that Apple could get such an exception because the company has announced investments in US production worth $ 600 billion.

There is no official confirmation of details of exemption from duties. Earlier, Trump had already promised to introduce 100% duty on semiconductors, but specific decisions have not yet been made. Currently, the sectors of chips and pharmaceuticals have been under investigation by the US Ministry of Commerce since April, which is a prerequisite for the introduction of duties on national security.

The investigation should be completed by the end of August, after which the new rules may come into force. This can cause significant changes in the global circuit supply chain and make the company review their production strategies.

Such high duties are expected to have a negative impact on the industry, especially small companies that will not be able to cover additional costs.
