Details: Reuters writes that Venezuela’s Ministry of Communications has not yet responded to a request for comment on the matter.
The Trump administration is weighing options for action against Venezuela to combat what it says is President Nicolás Maduro’s role in the illegal supply of drugs that are killing Americans. Maduro denies any connection to the illegal drug trade.
The publication reminds that since September, US forces have carried out at least 21 strikes against vessels suspected of transporting drugs in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean.
As a result of these strikes, at least 83 people died.
Reports of future action have been circulating in recent weeks as the US military has deployed forces in the Caribbean amid worsening relations with Venezuela.
We will remind: On November 14, US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth announced the start of a large-scale military operation, which, according to the official statements of the US administration, is aimed at combating drug trafficking.
However, the unprecedented deployment of military forces, including an aircraft carrier strike group, and earlier discussions in the White House about options for military operations in Venezuela could indicate a possible military intervention.
Previously, a number of American media, including The New York Times, reported that the Trump administration was studying options for legalizing Venezuela’s declaration of war and the use of special forces to conduct ground operations on its territory.
