For reference: Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city in the Andes at an altitude of more than 2400 meters above sea level. In 1983, it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in 2007 it was recognized as one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”.
The complex includes about 200 stone buildings, erected without the use of cement mortar. About 1.5 million tourists visit Machu Picchu every year.
The most popular way to get to the attraction is by train to Aguas Calientes, from where the serpentine buses take tourists up to the entrance to the complex.
