According to Oleg Grygorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the fatalities involved a 52-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman. They encountered the explosive device while attempting to extinguish a grass fire in one of the local villages.
In a separate incident on April 6, two men were also injured when their tractor struck an explosive device while traveling along a familiar route in the same community. Preliminary reports suggest that the explosive was likely dropped by an enemy drone.
The injured individuals, aged 53 and 48, suffered shrapnel wounds and have since been hospitalized for treatment. This series of incidents underscores the ongoing risks associated with unexploded munitions in the region, a legacy of the ongoing conflict.
