Tiktok has announced large -scale reductions in content moderators in the United Kingdom and several Asia countries, betting on automation of publications verification. About it reports PCMAG.

The reduction will relate to several hundred employees from the British office, where about 2500 people now work. TikTok noted that it is part of a global reorganization that involves the concentration of operations in smaller number of locations to improve work efficiency.

More than 85% of the platform rules are already removed by artificial intelligence algorithms. The company stated that its goal is to reduce the load on moderators and limit their interaction with graphic content.

The reductions coincide with the gradual entry into force of the British Online Safety Act, which provides large fines for lack of measures against illegal and harmful content, as well as with the preparation of voting for the creation of a union in the London Office.

Meanwhile, Meta has also changed the approach to content moderation on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. The company abandons traditional facting in favor of the Community Notes, which allows users to add context to potentially deceptive posts. Meta argues this by expert bias and excessive content. The platform also removes restrictions on immigration, gender and other widely discussed issues, leaving focus only on illegally or seriously harmful content.

Meta plans to attract volunteers with different views for Community Notes, and the moderation and Trust and Safety team will move from California to Texas. The company accepts applications from those who want to participate in this system, and the full launch is scheduled for the coming months.

Both Tiktok and Meta are trying to find a balance between moderation efficiency and reduce human intervention, but this raises doubts about experts and parts of users about the safety and objectivity of platforms.
