Refugees and Congolese soldiers, who were captured, arrived in the border with Rwanda, trying to find a safe place after the M23 fighters took control of the city of Goma and the local airport.
The Rwandan authorities officially adopted about 1,200 people running away from the conflict. Meanwhile, the situation in the region remains tense: in recent days more than one hundred people have been killed, almost a thousand were injured. Among the victims are 17 peacekeepers.
The armed confrontation between the government forces of the Congo and the M23 has been ongoing since the beginning of the year. UN representatives in the Eastern Congo declare the threat of ethnic violence, which may further complicate the humanitarian situation in the region.
