“Recently, controversial statements regarding the charity event organized by the team of the Real History project to popularize the Ukrainian Christmas tradition began to spread in the public space. Within the scope of the event, the filming of the social project 1+1 Make a Dream come true, which embodies the dreams of the children of fallen soldiers,” wrote Ostapenko.
He noted that it is necessary to clarify the situation in order to avoid misunderstandings.
“First of all, we would like to emphasize: the event was held in the Dining Hall, which is a historical part of the architectural complex and since its foundation at the end of the 19th century served as a place for communal meals. This hall is not a temple and has always been used for celebrations: spiritual, cultural and educational. This fully complies with the current legislation and requirements for the exploitation of historical and cultural monuments, and in no way harms the painting of the 20th century,” Ostapenko noted.
Ostapenko said that the Lavra regrets that this event caused a misunderstanding and could hurt the religious feelings of believers.
“The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a sacred place for every Ukrainian, and we always strive to maintain a balance between the preservation of spiritual heritage and its popularization. Secondly, Russia and pro-Russian forces systematically use the Lavra in their propaganda and IPSO to incite disputes and divisions among Ukrainians. We call on everyone to check the information, as well as to be attentive to the provocations that are often spread by the enemy,” Ostapenko said.
He noted that the administration of the Reserve is always ready for an open dialogue and will continue to work to ensure that this sacred space remains a place of spiritual unity, preservation of historical heritage and cultural enrichment.
