Details: The reason for submitting the bills was the Council’s controversial decision on December 18 to add Trump’s name to the name of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts – “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”

The first bill to protect the Kennedy Center would require the Center’s Board of Trustees to remove Trump’s name from all signs and reverse the renaming decision.
The second is a draft law on the integrity of federal property aimed at prohibiting the renaming of federal facilities in honor of current presidents.
Delaney said Congress must stop Trump’s “branding” of national treasures and memorials, “especially institutions that support the national arts and commemorate the late President Kennedy.”
“It’s long past time for legislators to draw a clear line to prevent such actions,” she said.
According to her, changing the name of the Kennedy Center is a betrayal of its heritage, an insult to the American people and their shared history.
Robert F. Kennedy’s daughter Kerry said the late president “proudly stood for justice, peace, equality, dignity, diversity and compassion for those who suffer.”
At the same time, according to her, Trump opposes these values, so his name should not be next to it.
At the same time, independent Senator Bernie Sanders submitted his bill to the Senate, called Trump’s actions “arrogance and narcissism” and promised to ban the naming of federal facilities after sitting presidents.
