During the fortifications in the south of Ukraine, the soldiers of the 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade made an unexpected archaeological discovery.

The military excavator scooped the earth, and a small ancient amphora came to the surface. One of the military, who became interested in the find, handed it to his friend who is fond of history. Together they handed over to the museum Old Fleet barracks ”for further analysis.

Experts found that the amphora belongs to the Corinthian style and was used for ritual purposes. Moreover, the objects found nearby indicate the presence of an ancient burial ground dated VI-V centuries BC. Of particular interest was the rare Oinhoya vessel – an ionic jug with one handle and three nose, which was used during ancient Greek symposia. The conservation of findings indicates the high social status of buried people.

According to the former archaeologist, and now the serviceman of the 123rd brigade, these artifacts confirm the cultural and trade relations of the region with ancient states. Within the framework of civil-military cooperation, the museum also received the remains of found burials for further study.

These discoveries can shed light on the history of ancient residents of Ukrainian lands and their interaction with the ancient world.
