Details: Macron gave a speech in the municipality of Sésson-Sévigné in northwestern France before Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, January 20.

He emphasized that the war in Ukraine “will not end tomorrow or the day after tomorrow”, and stated that it is important to give Ukraine “the means to stand up and enter any future negotiations from a position of strength”.

“The challenge of the day after the hostilities cease will be to give Ukraine guarantees against any return to war on its territory, as well as guarantees of our own security,” the French president said.

In the speech, Macron also asked the government and the army to submit proposals by May on how to mobilize more young volunteers to “support the Armed Forces” if needed.

It will be recalled that during the election campaign, Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine even before his inauguration. He also promised to end the war within 24 hours of taking office.

Trump’s team has recently acknowledged that the task is much more difficult and could take months to complete.

In his inaugural speech, Donald Trump did not mention Ukraine or Russia, but promised to be a “peacemaker and unifier.”
