Voting for the bill in the lower house of Congress took place according to a procedure that requires a two-thirds majority. It was supported by 427 members of the chamber, only one Republican, Clay Higgins, voted against it.
Things got off the ground when Johnson eventually swore in a byelection Democratic congresswoman with the 218 votes needed in the chamber to move the issue off the agenda.
Also, the decision of US President Donald Trump to publicly call on Republicans to vote for the draft law on the publication of the “Epstein files” contributed to the vote.
The document will now be sent to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain.
US President Donald Trump has said he will sign the release bill if it is passed by Congress, and
Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in a prison cell in 2019 while awaiting trial.
In recent months, Epstein’s case has gained special political weight in the United States, when evidence of a possible close relationship between the deceased and Donald Trump, which he publicly denies, appeared.
