Source: as “European Truth” writes, this is stated in the message of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury
Details: According to the announcement, the US has suspended for 180 days the sanctions against Syria imposed under the so-called “Caesar law” passed in 2019.
The suspension does not apply to operations related to Russia and Iran, and representatives of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad, including himself, according to the message.
“The lifting of US sanctions will contribute to Syria’s efforts to restore the economy, ensure the prosperity of all its citizens, including ethnic and religious minorities, as well as the fight against terrorism,” the message reads.
The decision to ease American sanctions against Syria was announced against the backdrop of the first ever reception of the Syrian president at the White House, which took place on Monday.
Before that, the US excluded Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa from its sanctions list.
