“We want the fighting to stop. We want both sides to come together and negotiate a peace agreement. We would like that to happen as soon as possible,” Whitaker said.
According to the diplomat, setting deadlines in such conditions is “very dangerous”.
“I think we’ll just do it as soon as it’s ready. But at the end of the day, both sides, the Russians and the Ukrainians, will have to agree to whatever deal is made,” Whitaker added.
His comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the United States offered to end the war Russia against Ukraine until the beginning of the summer, since later they will have another priority – the congressional elections.
Reuters reported on Friday that American and Ukrainian negotiators discussed the possibility of signing a peace agreement in March and holding elections in Ukraine in May.
The agency also reported that they continue to stay at the negotiations two key issues remain unresolved – regarding Donbass and ZNPP.
We will remind:
- During the negotiations in Abu Dhabi on February 4-5, the delegations of the United States of America, Ukraine and the Russian Federation discussed methods of implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
