The Azov Regiment in the spring of 2022 kept defense at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol for almost two months. In May, the defenders of Azovstal, more than two thousand people, surrendered. The regiment was created in 2014 as a volunteer formation, near its sources were activists of right views. Azov is now part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In August 2022, the Supreme Court of Russia recognized the Azov regiment with a terrorist organization.
