On January 13, the first court hearing in the case of the murder of philologist and public figure Iryna Farion began in the Shevchenkiv District Court of Lviv.

Details: It is reported that the accused in the murder of Farion Vyacheslav Zinchenko was brought to the courtroom, and Farion’s daughter Sofia Osoba was also present.
The lawyer of the victim, Nataliya Romanyk, filed a civil lawsuit on behalf of her client for moral damages in the amount of 15 million hryvnias during the meeting.
The defendant’s lawyers asked the court to adjourn the session to review the lawsuit.
In addition, the defendant’s lawyers petitioned the court to provide additional protection measures for Zinchenko, as many threats against the defendant appeared on social networks, in particular, that he could be killed while leaving the courthouse.
The panel of judges went into a conference room to rule on these motions.

Prehistory:
- On the evening of July 19, 2024, an attempt was made on former People’s Deputy Iryna Farion in Lviv, it happened on Masaryk Street. Farion later died in hospital.
- On July 25, a suspect in the murder of public figure and linguist Iryna Farion was detained in Dnipro. The 18-year-old detainee is a resident of Dnipro. While preparing for the crime, he rented at least three apartments in Lviv. The investigation was inclined to the opinion that the shooter was only an executor.
- On July 26, the court arrested suspect Vyacheslav Zinchenko for 2 months without bail. After choosing a preventive measure, the young man told journalists that he did not kill the linguist.
- On December 26, the person involved in the murder case was reclassified: now he is suspected of intentional murder of a person in connection with his performance of a public duty on the grounds of national intolerance, and illegal handling of weapons.
