The Ukrainian game STALKER 2 is perhaps the largest cultural breakthrough of our country. Perhaps, because it is difficult for me to compare with analogues. Ukrainian literature or cinematography are not so popular in the world as to be a phenomenon.

The long-term isolation of Ukraine in the “prison of nations – the USSR” and the orientation of show business to the Russian-language business stole decades of cultural success from us.

We know such phenomena as “Scandinavian detective” or “Korean drama”, but in Scandinavia or Korea we are known only in the context of war or past sports achievements. However, STALKER 2 can be considered the key to the world success of Ukrainian culture as such.

The game introduces an international audience to distinctly Ukrainian themes, narratives, and environments. By placing the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone—a globally recognized but uniquely Ukrainian symbol—at the center of its narrative, the game stimulates interest in history, culture, and literary works that explore similar motifs. The game contains 400 tracks by Ukrainian musicians from the big scene and the underground. This creates a natural entry point for Ukrainian literature to world markets. The intersection of games and literature, if cultivated strategically, can strengthen Ukraine’s cultural footprint abroad.

For example, cross-media marketing campaigns can emphasize parallels between the game’s themes and the books’ themes of sustainability, history, and environmental challenges. This will make it possible to position Ukrainian literature as a continuation of the gaming experience offered by the game, increasing its appeal to an audience that is already interested in the game universe.
