Ottavia Piana is a very experienced Italian speleologist. On Saturday, the girl, along with eight other people, explored the deep caves of Bueno Fonteno, northeast of the city of Bergamo.
But an incident happened, Ottavia Piana slipped and fell about five meters, sustaining injuries to her lower limbs, chest and face. Other speleologists immediately sounded the alarm: rescuers from the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Team (CNSAS) went to the cave and managed to reach the site of the incident on Sunday evening.
According to daily reports, the cave is located in an unexplored area, about a four-hour walk from the surface.
As of now, emergency services have not yet succeeded in evacuating her.
Emergency services prepare “micro explosive charges to clear the way”.
Ironically, this is not the first time a young woman has been stuck in the same cave: she had already fallen in July 2023.

The Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service estimates that caver Ottavia Piani will need 36 to 48 hours to leave the Abisso Bueno Fonteno cave, where medical staff are constantly monitoring the condition of the injured woman, who is stable. Communication from outside and inside the cave is provided by a telephone cable, which the rescuers laid along the entire route of the rescue work
